The sovereign vine...
In
1400, the Bishop of Uzès ("the Monsieur d'Uzès") announced throughout
the city "that on the 1st of January, he would offer a carafe of his
famous white wine to all the newlyweds who had had no dispute during
their first year of wedding." Nobody knows how many couples could have
improved his generosity! and since this time, get the saying: "Those
who want to win the Monsieur d'Uzès'
vineyard ",
addressed to young couples promising to be never fighting together or,
by extension, to those who were making too beautiful future plans.
